Papaver laevigatum M.Bieb.

This species is native to SE Europe, extending to Central Asia and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 3 species of Papaver found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Erect annual herb ; up to 20 cm high , sparsely to moderately setose . Stems decumbent , setose . Leaves dull green , setose ; basal leaves roughly oblanceolate in outline , 50-90 mm , pinnatifid or pinnatisect , long-ptiolate , with toothed segments ; stem leaves sessile , much smaller , obovate , mainly 1-2-pinnatisect . Inflorescences terminal , solitary , ± 2 cm in diameter ; peduncles setose , up to 10 cm . Flowers dull red ; calyx pilose ; petals 7-8 mm , red , obovate . Fruit capsule , obconical , green , ribbed , glabrous or with few hairs ; stigmatic disc flat or slightly conical , the rays not riged , the sinuses between the rays shallow . (Ref .
