Basananthe berberoides (Chiov.) J.J.de Wilde

This species is native to E Ethiopia, extending to Somalia and Arabia. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Basananthe occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Spiny shrubs ; up to 50 cm tall , scabrid without tendrils and with a strong pleasant lemony-resin-like scent of all plant parts . Stems branched , rigid ; spines 0 . 5–2 cm long . Leaves 0 . 2–1 cm long , ovate to obovate or oblong , acute tip , margin entire or minutely dentate ; stipules 1–1 . 5 mm long ; petiole up to 1 . 5 mm long . Inflorescences solitary or in small clusters on small short-shoots . Flowers white cream ; sepals 6–9 mm long ± hispid ; petals 4–6 mm long ; styles 1 . 5–3 . 5 mm long , united for half the length or more . Fruit 1 . 2–1 . 8 cm long . Seeds 2–3 , 8–10 mm long . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
