Andrachne telephioides L.

This species is native to Cape Verde, Canary Islands (Fuerteventura), NE Tropical Africa, Mediterranean, extending to Central Asia and NW India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 species of Andrachne found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial low prostrate herb ; up to 25 cm high , often reddish , arising from woody rootstock . Stems woody base , ± prostrate to ascending , spreading , reddish . Leaves alternate , (0 . 5-)4-7(-11) x (1-)3-5(-9) mm , dark glaucous-green , covered with waxy coating , ovate to braodly ovate to round , apex rounded with a small mucro , base rounded , margin entire or obscurely serrulate ; stipules papery , reddish in fresh material ; petiole 1-2 mm . Inflorescences axillary , solitary or fascicled , usually with 2 male flowers and one female per fascicle ; pedicels 1 mm . Flowers minute , white to green , monoecious . Male flowers ± 2 mm across ; sepals ± 1 mm ; petals shorter than the sepals . Female flowers ± 3 mm across . Fruit capsule , 2-2 . 5 mm in diameter , depressed-globose , green to yellow-green , somewhat 3-lobed . Seeds 1 . 5-2 mm , smooth , dull , pale yellowish-brown , triquetrous , with a convex back .
