Phyllanthus maderaspatensis L.

This species is native to Africa, W Indian Ocean, Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, extending to Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Phyllanthus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

An erect or spreading subshrub or small shrub ; up to 50 cm tall . Stems with slender angular branches , sparsely branched , glabrous , glaucous . Leaves alternate , 7-30 x 2-3 mm , oblong to oblanceolate , apex obtuse to rounded , tapering into a short or sessile base , margin entire ; stipules ± 2 mm , lanceolate . Inflorescences axillary , in clusters usually with 2-4 male and 1 female arranged on the lower part of the stem ; fruiting pedicels ± 2 mm . Flowers monoecious . Male flowers ± 2 mm across ; sepals ovate , ± 1mm , green or pinkish , entire ; disc glands rounded ; stamens 3 ; filaments fused almost to the anthers . Female flowers ± 2 mm , increasing to ± 4 mm in fruit ; sepals obovate , reddish-green with a clear hyaline margin , arranged in two whorls of 3 . Fruit capsule , 3-4 mm in diameter , depressed globose , glabrous . Seeds 1–1 . 5 mm long , sharply triquetrous , light brown , smooth . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
