Leaves alternate , 7-30 x 2-3 mm , oblong to oblanceolate , apex obtuse to rounded , tapering into a short or sessile base , margin entire ; stipules ± 2 mm , lanceolate . Inflorescences axillary , in clusters usually with 2-4 male and 1 female arranged on the lower part of the stem ; fruiting pedicels ± 2 mm . Flowers monoecious . Male flowers ± 2 mm across ; sepals ovate , ± 1mm , green or pinkish , entire ; disc glands rounded ; stamens 3 ; filaments fused almost to the anthers . Female flowers ± 2 mm , increasing to ± 4 mm in fruit ; sepals obovate , reddish-green with a clear hyaline margin , arranged in two whorls of 3 .
