Subshrub ; up to 40 cm high . Stems erect , branched , scabrid . Leaves alternate , 6-16 x 3-10 mm , oblong-ovate to obovate to suborbicular , apex acute to obtuse , base rounded , margin entire , scrabulous to glabrous ; stipules ± 1 mm , linear , white ; petiole 1-2 mm , capillary . Inflorescences usually with 1-2 male and 1 female arranged on the lower part of the stem . Flowers monoecious . Male flowers ± 2 mm across ; sepals ovate , ± 1 mm , green , entire ; disc glands rounded to crenate ; stamens 3 ; filaments fused almost to the anthers . Female flowers ± 1 mm , increasing to ± 3 mm in fruit ; sepals obovate , reddish-green with a clear hyaline margin , arranged in two whorls of 3 . Fruit capsule , ± 1 mm in diameter , depressed globose , glabrous . Seeds dark brown , marked with about 7 longitudinal lines on the back . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
