Linaria simplex Desf.

This species is native to Canary Islands, Mediterranean, extending to Central Asia and NW Pakistan, Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is only one species of Linaria occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Short to medium waxy-green annual herb ; up to 15 cm high . Stem usually simple , erect , glabrous except the sparsely glandular- pubescent inflorescence . Leaves sessile , in whorls of 3–5 below , alternate above , 20–22 × 1 mm , linear , entire with inrolled margins . Inflorescences in terminal clusters of 2–3 flowers opening one at a time [in the Oman material seen , not with elongate racemes] ; bracts ± 4 mm , linear ; pedicels ± 1 mm , sparsely glandular . Flowers pale yellow , often with violet veins ; calyx dark green , deeply 5-lobed almost to base , lobes 2–5 mm , oblong to spathulate , glandular-pubescent ; corolla yellow with violet veins , 2-lipped , ± 5 mm ; tube ± 2 . 5 mm ; spur ± 3 mm , straight . Fruit capsule , 5–5 . 5 mm , globose , glabrous , light green . Seeds 1 . 5-2 . 3 mm , smooth or with small wart-like projections . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 3) .
