Perennial shrub ; up to 1 m tall . Stems erect , woody , spinescent , branching divaricate , glaucous , glabrescent ; young stems white pubescent . Leaves alternate , 1 . 5–8 × 1 . 5–6 mm , spathulate to orbicular , somewhat fleshy , glabrous , mucronate , obtuse , base gradually tapering into the petiole , ± 3 mm . Inflorescences solitary , axillary in lax racemes ; pedicels filiform , 2–7 mm , becoming recurved . Flowers pale yellow with purple veins ; calyx lobes unequal , acute with narrow hyaline margins ; upper lobe 3–4 mm , broadly ovate ; lower lobe ± 3 mm , ovate ; median lobes1 . 5–2 mm , lanceolate ; corolla pale yellow with purple veins , 6–7 mm , upper lip 2- fid , lower lip 3-fid with a prominent palate ; stamens 4 .
