Polygala dhofarica Baker

This species is native to S Arabian Peninsula (S Oman & SE Yemen). (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 9 species of Polygala found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

woody-based perennial herb ; up to 40 cm high . Stems erect to ascensing , many , arising from the base , crisped-pubescent to glabrous . Leaves alternate , 5-15 x 2-4 mm , grey-green , oblong-elliptic to lanceolate , apex acute with a small mucro , base cuneate , margin entire , sparsely shortly crisped-pubescent ; petiole ± 1 mm , pubescent . Inflorescences in terminal racemes ; pedicel ± 1 . 5 mm , glabrous ; bracts and bracteoles glabrous , soon falling . Flowers purple ; sepals persistent , the outer 3 sepals ± 3 mm , glabrous ; inner 2 sepals 7-7 . 5 mm , elliptic , reddish-purple , glabrous ; petals purple , crest of the keel purple . Fruit capsule , 5-5 . 5 x 5-6 mm , obovoid , compressed , glabrous , broadly winged on all sides ; wings 1 . 5-2 mm broad , glabrous , enclosed by the larger inner sepals . Seeds with long silky hairs ; caruncle appendages short . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
