Polygala erioptera DC.

This species is native to Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Indian Subcontinent, eastwards to Indo-China. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 9 species of Polygala found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Delicate annual or short-lived perennial herb ; up to 20(-30) cm high , with or without a woody stock . Stems erect to ascending or sometimes prostrate , branching from the base , white-pubescent . Leaves alternate , 5-15(-20) x 1-2 mm , linear to linear-oblong , apex acute , base cuneate , with entire margins , covered with short hairs . Inflorescences in small lateral racems . Flowers purplish-pink ; sepals persistent , the outer 3 sepals 1-1 . 5 mm ; inner 2 sepals 5-6 mm , broadly ovate to sub-rotund , yellow-green , pubescent outside , 3-nerved in fruit ; petals with the crest of keel purplish-pink . Fruit capsule , 4-5 x 3-4 mm , elliptic-oblong , notched above , compressed , pubescent and ciliate , narrowly winged on all sides , enclosed by the larger inner sepas . Seeds 2 . 5–3 . 5 mm long , flattened-cylindric , with long hairs ; caruncle conical , appendages absent . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 2) .
