Polygala irregularis Boiss.

This species is native to Sahara, extending to Kenya, Arabian Peninsula, S Iran, eastwards to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 9 species of Polygala found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb or shrublet ; up to 20 cm high , with a woody stock . Stems erect to ascending , many , arising from the base , sparsely branched , sparsely pubescent to glabrous . Leaves alternate , 6-10 x 1 mm , grey-green , linear , apex acute , base cuneate , margin entire , pubescent ; petiole ± 1 mm . Inflorescences solitary , distantly placed on the flowering shoot ; pedicel ± 2 mm ; bracts and bracteoles deciduous . Flowers deep purple ; sepals persistent , the outer 3 sepals ± 2 mm , broadly ovate with 3 green veins and a broad white-scarious margin ; inner 2 sepals 5-5 . 5 mm , sub-rotund , shortly clawed , pale yellow-green , with distinct green-purple veins , pubescent ; petals deep purple , crest of the keel purple . Fruit capsule , 4-5 x 4-5 mm , ovate-oblong , notched above , compressed , glabrous , broadly winged on all sides ; winges ± 1 . 5 mm , glabrous , pink tinged , purple-veined , enclosed by the larger inner sepals .
