Deciduous , spiny shrub ; up to 50 cm tall , with grey-white , somewhate flaking bark . Stems and branches intricate , ending in spines , glabrous throughout . Leaves 5-10 x 1-3 mm , in fascicles or on short lateral branches , rapidly deciduous , spatulate , pubescent , sessile , with an acute apex , grey-green . Inflorescences grouped in terminal spike-like racemes . Flowers bisexual , sessile , white to pale yellow ; sepals 6 , ovate to elliptic ; petals 4 , linear , white , with 1-2 basal teeth ; disc entire , flat , pentagonal ; stamens c . 12 . Fruit capsule , 4-6 mm , ovoid , 3- or 6-lobed in transverse section , yellow when mature , inflated . Seeds 1 . 4 x 1 mm , smooth , not glossy , blackish brown . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 1) .
