Leaves opposite , 5–20(–40) , linear to narrowly elliptic to ovate-elliptic , base cuneate , apex acute , margins entire , often recurved , glabrous to minutely scabridulous to papillose ; stipules small , membranous , apex toothed . Flowers 1–4 , axillary , isostylous ; corolla 4-lobed , white or purplish , 1–3 mm , funnel-shaped . Fruit capsule 1–3 mm in diameter , broadly ovoid , with adpressed hairs .
