Leaves and leaf-like stipules in whorls of 4 , 2–5 , oblanceolate to obovate , sessile , apex acute , margins entire , glabrous or pubescent , 1-veined . Flowers minute , in 3-flowered axillary cymes , the central flower bisexual , 4-merous , the laterals male , 3-merous ; corolla white or yellowish , cup-shaped . Fruit with 2 mericarps , enclosed in the enlarged peduncle and pedicel , covered with stiff hairs .
