Biennial herb ; up to 1 m tall . Stems erect , branched , white tomentose with stellate and glandular hairs , especially in the inflorescence . Basal leaves forming a rosette , cauline alternate , grey-green ; leaves 30–90(–150) , oblong to oblong-ovate , margins dentate to irregularly lobed to entire , apex obtuse , base irregularly lobed or sometimes entire . Flowers in 2–5-flowered axillary clusters , shortly to pedicellate , in branched lax cymes , spreading ; corolla yellow , 5-lobed . Fruit capsule longer than the calyx , stellate-tomentose , with the persistent style .
