Annual herb or shrub , up to c . 1 m tall , ± glabrous , often short-lived . Stems erect , ridged , muched-branched , angular , pilose when young , glabrescent . Leaves membranaceous , ovate to lanceolate , petiolate , base cuneate , apex acute , with entire margins . Inflorescences solitary or in few-flowered clusters , rarely 2-flowered . Flowers small , white to greenish or bluish-white , pendent . Fruit berry , red sometimes orange , yellow or blackish , very variable in shape and size , smooth , often apically acute and sometimes depressed . Seeds 3 . 2–5 . 5 × 3 . 2–4 . 2 mm , yellow to yellowish-orange , orbicular to discoidal , with thickened margin . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
