Short-lived perennial shrub , up to 2 . 5 m tall , ± bushy . Stems erect , spreading , ± woody , usually zig-zagging , much branched , terete or slightly angular , sparse to moderately pilose when young , with simple hairs mixed with stalked glands , glabrescent . Leaves usually solitary , rarely 2 appearing together , membranaceous , dark green , lanceolate , occasionally ovate to ovate-lanceolate , cuneate and decurrent bases , ± entire margins , petiolate . Inflorescences usually fasciculate with 2–4 flowers in each branch or leaf axil , flowers rarely solitary . Flowers corolla white or yellowish to greenish , rarely purplish , often with yellow markings in the throat , stellate ; stamens equal ; anthers blue , blue-green or purple , oblong ; ovary smooth , brown , ovoid , glabrous , 2-locular . Fruit berries , smooth , glossy , green , becoming orangish or red when mature , ovoid to narrowly conical elongated , often apically acute . Seeds 3–3 . 5 × 2–3 mm , brownish , ovoid , discoidal or reniform to suborbicular . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
