In traditional medicine, the ripe black berries used to be gathered by women once they has ripened from green to a dark blue-black. The berries were crushed and mixed with oil and used to dye the skin for protection against the cold and illnesses associated with cold and wet weather. (Ref. Flora of Oman, vol. 3). This fruit considered edible in some areas. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
